Why We Support Skipton Tennis Centre

April 22, 2024

At Walker Foster Solicitors, our local communities are at the heart of what we do – providing legal services which have been trusted by generations since 1919.

Since 2012, we have sponsored Skipton Tennis Centre, which is located near our Skipton High Street office, and we have a great working relationship with their founder, Adam Cox.  Here’s their history:

  • 2000: AC Tennis (Adam Cox Tennis) was established and operated from Aireville School (Skipton Academy).
  • 2002: The first school links were formed, and tennis sessions were delivered.
  • 2006: Negotiations began for the current site known as Skipton Tennis Centre.
  • 2007: The lease was signed for the current STC site.
  • 2008: A significant investment of £120,000 led to the opening of Skipton Tennis Centre with 3 floodlit courts.
  • 2009: The first STC competitive teams were entered into local leagues.
  • 2014: An additional investment of £38,000 resulted in the opening of two more tennis courts, now known as courts 4 & 5.
  • 2018: Skipton Tennis Centre achieved national recognition by winning the LTA Club of the Year award, presented at Wimbledon.
  • 2020: Upgrades were made to the entire site, including new fencing.
  • 2021: The School Sports Partnership was formed, enabling over 3,000 children to access a wide variety of sports.
  • 2022: STC opened its first Padel court, becoming one of the first venues in the UK to introduce this exciting sport.
  • 2022: The ACES program was established to create a high-performance pathway for Mini Tennis Players.

Skipton Tennis Centre’s mission is to inspire, motivate, and improve health and wellbeing through tennis, offering social tennis, competitive options, and both group and private lessons.

Our sponsorship of Skipton Tennis Centre has helped Adam to get various projects off the ground, such as:

  • The launch and ongoing maintenance of the Padel Court.  Padel is one of the fastest-growing sports in the UK and Europe and in 2023, Skipton Tennis Centre held the first Walker Foster Padel League!
  • The costs of court painting and new lines together with grounds maintenance.

In 2024, our sponsorship is enabling four local primary school children to undertake tennis lessons at Skipton Tennis Centre.  The children get everything they need (including a racket and trainers) as part of this initiative, and Adam works closely with local primary schools to find the children who will most benefit from this opportunity.

Skipton Tennis Centre offers discounted Tennis Club membership for our employees; you can find out more about the other perks and benefits that we can offer to those who seek to join our team.
