Sun, Sea and Divorce: Summer Holidays Spark a Rise in Family Splits

September 22, 2015

This was the headline of an article in the Sunday Times (20 September 2015) which highlighted the impact of the long school summer breaks on family relationships.

Liz Hebden, an expert in family law at Walker Foster has said that in her experience there is an influx of new enquiries just after the school summer holidays.  She believes the reason is two-fold.

Firstly, during the summer break, there are generally long periods of time couples spend together, which can break a relationship where there are already problems.  That, coupled with the start of a new school year in which there is a sense of a fresh start, results in couples taking stock as to whether their marriage is worth preserving.

Of course, the prospect of ending a relationship, particularly where children are involved, can be both daunting and overwhelming.  We at Walker Foster, pride ourselves in being able to provide advice and assistance in a sympathetic and objective manner.  Consulting a family lawyer does not necessarily mean the end of the relationship.  Often Clients may wish to receive advice without having made a decision to separate.

The family team at Walker Foster is able to offer a preliminary consultation (with no time constraint) for a fixed fee of £60.00.  Sensitive and practical advice will be offered with no obligation.

If you wish to consider your options, please contact either Liz Hebden eah@walkerfoster.com or Geraldine Farry gf@walkerfoster.com or telephone 01756 700200 to arrange a mutually convenient appointment.
