Employment Law

December 11, 2012

Amounts payable for some Employment Tribunal awards and other sums due under Employment Legislation will increase from 1 February 2013.  The main amendments are:-

1. A week’s pay for the purposes of calculating statutory redundancy payments and the basic award for unfair dismissal rises from £430 to £450.
2. Unfair dismissal maximum compensation increases from £72,300 to £74,200.
3. The minimum basic award in Tribunal cases, where the dismissal was unfair because of health and safety reasons, trade union reasons or occupational pension trustee reasons, rises from £5,300 to £5,500

The new rates only apply where the event which gives rise to compensation or payment occurs on or after 1 February 2013.  In the case of unfair dismissals, the new rates are relevant where the effective date of termination falls on or after 1 February 2013. The old limits apply where the dismissal or relevant event is before 1 February 2013.
